WORKING VISIT CONCLUDES WITH ENGAGEMENTS IN EAST MAMPRUSI MUNICIPALITY

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, on Friday, 7th August 2026, concluded her three-day working visit to the Northern and North East Regions with a visit to the Gambaga Alleged Witches Camp in the East Mamprusi Municipality.

Accompanied by members of the Ministry’s Advisory Board and some management staff, the Minister paid a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom.

She also paid a courtesy call on the Gabaraana, Alhaji Tahiru Tia, and engaged the Municipal Chief Executive for East Mamprusi, Hon. David Bariche Bukari, to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at improving the welfare and protection of camp residents.

The Minister and her delegation later engaged camp residents to gain firsthand insight into their living conditions and the challenges they face.

During the interaction, residents appealed for permanent shelter, improved access to clean water and other essential social services to enhance their quality of life.

Responding to the concerns raised, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey reaffirmed Government’s commitment to ensuring that every Ghanaian lives in safety and dignity. She stressed that the Ministry would continue to work with traditional authorities, the Municipal Assembly and other partners to promote family reintegration where possible while providing sustainable support for residents who are unable to return to their communities.

The Minister further assured camp residents that Government would explore sustainable solutions, including the provision of a permanent shelter and improved social amenities, to create a safer and more dignified environment.

She emphasised that no vulnerable person should be left behind and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to protecting the rights, welfare and dignity of all Ghanaians.

The visit brought to a close a successful three day working tour, during which the Minister monitored the ongoing LEAP Beneficiary Enrolment Exercise, engaged local authorities and traditional leaders, and reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening social protection interventions for vulnerable households across the Northern and North East Regions.
