VISITATION OF DAYCARE CENTRES IN GREATER ACCRA

In a bid to ensure the well-being and safety of children, Hon. Dakoa Newman, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, made an unannounced visit to several daycare centers in the Greater Accra Region on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Accompanying the Minister were the Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Dr. Comfort Asare, and some staff from the Department of Social Welfare, GhanaDepartment of Social Welfare.

The visit aimed to assess the conditions and operations of daycare centers under the Social Welfare Department.

Some of the daycare centers visited included The Cedar School, Osofo Owuo Memorial School, Hope of Glory School, Day Spring Montessori School, and New Princeton School, Genesis Shishidzee among others.

The delegation sought to evaluate the quality of care provided, the adequacy of facilities, and the overall environment in which the children are nurtured.

During their tour, the officials interacted with daycare staff and management, gaining insights into their daily routines and challenges.

Hon. Dakoa Newman emphasized the government’s commitment to providing safe and conducive environments for children, highlighting the importance of early childhood education and care in the nation’s development.

“Our visit today underscores our dedication to ensuring that daycare centers meet the highest standards of care and safety. We are here to listen, learn, and support these institutions in any way we can,” she said.

She noted that regular inspections and assessments, along with continuous monitoring and support, are crucial for maintaining the quality of services offered at these centers.

The visit by the Minister and her team reflects the government’s proactive stance on child welfare and protection. The insights gained from today’s tour will inform future policies and initiatives aimed at improving the standards of daycare centers across the country.
