The Domestic Violence Unit under the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection (MoGCSP), has organised a capacity building training workshop for some key stakeholders on ‘Sexual Gender-Based Violence’ (SGBV) on Tuesday 6th November, 2018.
The training which gathered religious leaders, heads of schools, and teachers, was to equip them with knowledge and skills to better perform in their line of work in the fight against SGBV in Ghana.

According to Md. Malonin Asibi, Executive Secretary for the Domestic Violence Unit, the move was also to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry of Gender and stakeholders so as to expand the scope of advocacy and efforts channeled at addressing SGBV issues.

Addressing participants, the Chief Director for MoGCSP, Dr. Afisah Zakariah entreated them to agents of change by using the knowledge acquired through the training to respond appropriately to issues of SGBV.
She also urged participants to be ready to always blow the whistle against violence and report to the appropriate authorities, as well as giving support to victims.

Both Mr Adolf Awuku ( National Coordinator for the Coalition on Domestic Violence Legislation in Ghana), and Dr. Rita O. Amankwah (Director for Social Protection Directorate) made presentations respectively on ‘Understanding SGBV and working with its victims/survivors’ and ‘Understanding the Ghana Social Protection Policy’.
