Re-Launch of Free NHIS for Prison Inmates

At the Nsawam Prison today, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection relaunched the Nationwide Free NHIS Registration for Prisons’ Inmates.
Due to the expiration of NHIS Cards of inmates (which they acquired through the collaborative effort of MoGCSP and the National Health Authority) access to healthcare has become challenging to prisons’ inmates who are saddled with huge bills owed to healthcare providers and government hospitals. As part of efforts to resolve this, the Ministry is embarking on the re-registration of inmates across the country to guarantee their access to basic and quality healthcare.
Relaunching the exercise, Hon. Otiko Afisah Djaba said both NHIS registration and re-registration will contribute and help improve the prisons services’ quests to maintain best practices in correctional management.
Hon. Otiko Djaba made a profound pledge to address the welfare of prisoners in a sustainable manner.
