In celebration of the birthday of the President of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (29th March 2019), a party was organised in his honour for the People Living with Disability. Inmates of the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre in the Kwadaso Municipality in Kumasi, on Friday 29th March 2019, had the prestigious opportunity to share in the 75th Birthday Anniversary celebration of President Nana Addo.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, together with her team from the Ministry of Gender, travelled from Accra to Kumasi to celebrate the occasion at a time the President was on official duties in America.
The Minister together with the presidential staff donated bags of rice, soft drinks, bottled water, and provisions to the inmates, numbering about 98, who were served with soft drinks after which a birthday cake was cut to mark the occasion, amid the popping of champagne.
Hon. Cynthia Morrison assured them that she had taken note of issues related to their disability fund, and that she would work on it and make sure they receive it on time.
Mrs. Patricia Nkansah Kyeremateng, Ashanti Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare, disclosed that some of the inmates are visually and hearing impaired, while others too cannot speak. She stressed their usefulness in society even though people used to stigmatise persons with disability in the years gone by.
