NHIS Registration For The Aged In The Volta Region


The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is once more in the Volta Region to register the vulnerable of the Region onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at a free Cost.

The Ministry is on a Three-day (from the 16th to 18th Novemeber, 2016) tour cross the Volta Region to register the vulnerable – the Aged (65 years and above), Persons with Disabilities(PWDs) and the Excluded onto the NHIS with a target of 2400 beneficiaries in three specific Districts which are: Afadzato South District, Ketu South Districts and Keta District.

The first point of operation was in “Golokuati” a community in the Afadzato South District. 800 vulnerable persons comprising of elderly, disadvantaged and persons with disabilities were registered onto the NHIS free.

Monitoring the registration process, Hon. Nana Oye Lithur – Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, expressed Government’s intentions to assist and provide for the vulnerable throughout Ghana.

She said that Government’s commitment to the Vulnerable group in Ghana is of top priority, hence, Government is strong-minded to provide and protect their rights and wellbeing. Adding that, registering them onto to NHIS is meant at offering them proper assistance as well as quality healthcare.

Beneficiaries of the free NHIS were appreciative for NHIA’s efforts, and with a big sense of gratitude, congratulated the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection for such great initiative and commitment to the vulnerable.
