The National COVID-19 Trust Fund which was established to assist the poor and vulnerable during the COVID-19 crisis on Friday, 24th April, 2020 has donated assorted items to five (5) selected Residential Homes and a shelter namely: the Osu Children’s home, Teshie Children’s Home,
Fern House Pregnancy & Resource Centre, Shelter for Abuse, New Life Nungua Children’s Home and Help Age Ghana.

In her opening remarks, the Chief Director for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Afisah Zakariah said the COVID-19 Trust Fund plays a critical and crucial role in the prevention and controlling of COVID-19 generally in Ghana.

The Chairperson of the National COVID-19 Trust Fund, former Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo in her speech said the impact of the Corona Virus pandemic is pervasive and this has cut across every aspect of human life.

She said the Government of Ghana is implementing several interventions to manage the impact of the virus.

One of such interventions according to the Chairperson is the establishment of the COVID-19 Trust Fund aimed at complementing Government’s effort to combat the epidemic and to also assist and promote the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable affected by the pandemic.

Justice Sophia Akuffo stressed that the selection of the vulnerable groups were based on data provided by the Ministry.

She further reiterated their commitment to effectively implementing their mandate.

Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection in her remarks thanked officials of the National COVID-19 Trust Fund for their donations and promised that no vulnerable groups or persons will be left out in the distribution.

She encouraged all care givers to show love towards all children under their care as this will go a long way to shaping their lives.

The items donated includes: 98 cartons of tin tomatoes (big size), 488 (70grams) cartons of tin tomatoes, 56 (50kg) bags of rice, 5,596 boxes of indomie, 1,960 packs of minimie atsomo, 1,470 packs of Coco pops, and 590 cartons of Tampico drinks.

The National COVID-19 Trust Fund in addition donated Veronica buckets and Hand sanitizers.
