The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has held a three-day (from 17th to 20th January 2019) Performance Review and Planning Workshop as part of its key activity for the year. The workshop, which is carried out every year, allows MoGCSP to carefully evaluate all activities, programmes, and projects undertook under the 2018 fiscal year, identify key challenges, and adopt lessons learnt to inform implementation of the 2019 annual work plan to enable the Ministry achieve its main goal.

The workshop was purposely held to assess and also plan a better way of executing other plans that would enable the Ministry attain its main objective of ensuring gender equality through the mainstreaming of gender considerations, promoting the welfare and protection of children and empowering the vulnerable as part of the Ministry’s core mandate through social protection interventions which contribute to national development.

Making her remarks on the opening day of the workshop, Hon. Cynthia Morrison said it was very critical and essential to have the review workshop which will highlight the ministry’s performance in 2018 and help identify pertaining challenges and short comings to the ministry in order to focus keenly on the vision and way forward in achieving the Ministry’s mandate.

“Evaluation and stock taking of activities and programmes of an institution is important for measuring achievements and challenges. Feedback from evaluation exercises provide useful information to improve programme design and implementation in order to achieve organizational goals and mandate. Evaluation also promotes growth and ensures a higher productivity of every institution”, she added.

The three-day workshop offered the platform for the ministry a forum to discuss, share experience, provide guidance and diverse strategies to strengthen the achievement of the Ministry’s mandate.

The Hon. Minister, therefore, entreated participants to submit effective feedback which will provide useful information to improve programme design and implementation in order to achieve organisational goals and mandate, as well as develop and implement programmes and interventions that will actualise the vision of the President’s Ghana Beyond Agenda.

Concluding with her statement, Hon. Cynthia Morrison disclosed that as a Minister, she has also outlined a set of vision which will need the full cooperation and commitment of every MoGCSP’s staff to achieve them by mainstreaming them into the ministry’s plans and programmes.

Present at the workshop were all key members of the ministry like the Hon. Minister for MoGCSP – Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison,Hon. Deputy Minister for MoGCSP – Hon. Gifty-Twum Ampofo, Chief Director for MoGCSP – Dr. Afisah Zakariah, Director in charge of Policy Planning Monitoring & Evaluation Department (PPMED) – Mr. Mawutor Ablo, all various Heads of departments, Units and Directorates. Present also were consultants who respectively made presentations on the Hon. Minister’s vision for MoGCSP and Public Financial Management.
