A delegation representing the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC), an arm of the African Union (AU), is currently on a fact-finding mission in Ghana from April 2nd to April 5th, 2024.

On Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, the delegation held a meeting with some technical stakeholders such as the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development among others.

The primary focus of the meeting was to address reports concerning violations of children’s rights, which had been submitted to the Secretariat of ACERWC by organizations such as the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa. Additionally, various other crucial topics were discussed during the visit.

Mrs. Florence Ayisi Quartey, speaking on behalf of the Chief Director Dr Afisah Zakariah, welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude for their visit.

ACERWC is dedicated to promoting and safeguarding the rights and well-being of children across Africa. The committee monitors the implementation of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and works towards its effective enforcement among member states.

Through country visits, advocacy efforts, and collaboration with governments and civil society organizations, ACERWC addresses challenges related to children’s rights violations.

The meeting with the delegation of ACERWC served as a significant platform for dialogue and collaboration aimed at addressing child rights violations and enhancing the welfare of children not only in Ghana but also across the African continent.
