As part of efforts to promote Gari into a nutritious meal, The Ghana School Feeding Secretariat under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is organizing a two day innovative nutrition programme for caterers of the school feeding programme as well as interacting with pupils at Bobikuma and Kwaman, all in the Agona West Constituency of the Central Region of Ghana.

The essence of the programme was to to sensitize, introduce and inculcate the eating of nutritious “Gari Fotor” fortified with vegetables and soy beans into the School Feeding Menu.

Speaking at the event, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison was grateful that schools in Lower and Upper Bobikuma have also benefited from the School feeding programme.
She added that, the school feeding programme has increased enrollment tremendously in schools.
The Hon. Minister entreated parents to send their children to school to get the required education in order to make an impact in the society since they represent the future of the nation.
In addition, parents must take responsibility of the upbringing of their children in order for them not to go wayward.
She further advised teachers to guide and monitor the progress of pupils.

Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison stated that, the introduction of the school feeding programme was meant to boost local production of crops by farmers in the various communities thereby earning them an income.

In attendance was the Chief Director of the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, Ag. Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Dr. Mrs. Gertrude Quarshigah and some officials from the Ghana Education Service.
