The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), under the auspices of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has successfully carried out the second phase of the Nationwide Practical Training for Caterers and Head cooks under the school feeding programme.

Over the last month – February 2026, teams from the GSFP Secretariat conducted training sessions for caterers and headcooks in 13 regions across the country. This comes after the secretariat successfully carried out practical trainings in Bono, Volta, and Oti Regions in December 2025, as part of the First phase of the Initiative.

The exercise aimed to equip caterers with modern cooking techniques and safe food handling practices to ensure that meals served under the programme are both nutritious and wholesome.

Moreover, ‎the training initiative purposely seeks to improve the quality, safety, and nutritional value of meals served to beneficiary pupils while promoting the use of locally sourced foodstuffs and supporting local agriculture.

Across both phases, the trainings featured hands-on sessions on key topics including portion control using handy measures, effective utilisation of soya beans as a nutritious and cost-effective protein source, food hygiene and safety, nutrition standards, and proper kitchen management.

The Ghana School Feeding Programme continues to prioritize collaboration with stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service and the Women in Agricultural & Development Directorate of the Ministry of Food & Agriculture, to ensure that school children receive safe and nutritious meals throughout the country.
