The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection as part of its mandate to support the vulnerable during the Corona Virus pandemic has donated some relief food items to Mother’s living with HIV on 23rd April, 2020 at the forecourt of the Ministry.
The donation was made through the Mothers2Mothers Organisation which is a non-profit organisation dedicated to preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
According to the Chief Director for the Ministry, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the Ministry was tasked to reach out to the vulnerable during the lockdown period and the organisation is one of the groups the Ministry usually works with, so upon their request for support the Ministry felt the need to support them during this trying moment.
Madam Faustina Ocansey, team leader for the group who received the items on behalf of the organisation expressed their gratitude for the support given them. According to her most pregnant women and other mothers living with HIV find it difficult to feed during this period and will be very much appreciative of the support given them.
She said the organisation will ensure that the mothers receive the items and would also give a report on the distribution of the items.
The items donated by the Ministry includes: 500 tubers of yam, 10 cartons of tin tomatoes, 10 cartons of cooking oil and 6 cartons of Margarine (cooking brand)
Present at the donation was the Social Protection Director, Dr. Rita Owusu-Amankwah and a Community Mentor Mother from the organisation, Madam Patience Sapaka.
