GOVERNMENT OF GHANA FEEDS THOUSANDS DURING LOCKDOWN

The Government of Ghana is currently rolling out a food distribution programme to the poor and vulnerable including Persons with Disability through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection at the lockdown areas of the country due to the outbreak of the COVID-19.
The President through the Ministry is providing assorted food stuffs and packs of cooked foods to thousands of needy and vulnerable people within Accra, Kumasi and Kasoa.
This initiative by Government is to facilitate fair and efficient delivery of social services for the vulnerable at the lockdown areas in the country.
The distribution team from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection was led by the Social Protection Director, Dr. Rita Owusu-Amankwah and Mr. Emmanuel Bediako, Principal Accountant of the Ministry on Wednesday 8th April, 2020.
The team handed over thousands of packed foods, tubers of yams and mackerels to the representatives of the Osu Mantse’s Palace, Ngleshie Alata Mantse Palace at Jamestown and Accra Metropolitan Assembly for onward distribution to Kayayes, Persons with Disability and other vulnerable persons located at the lockdown areas.
Other teams from the Ministry visited Ledzokuku, Darkuman, Agblogbloshie, Kaneshie, Mamobi, Dogobola, Ayawaso North and some parts of the country.
Receiving the packs of cooked foods, yams and mackerels were the following: Madam Naa Shormey Nortey, Member of the Traditional Council and Mr. Teddy Nartey, stool secretary of the Osu Mantse’s Palace. Okyeame Wuda and Asafoatse Okuakowanim also received packs of food on behalf of the vulnerable at Jamestown.
The Greater Accra Deputy Director for NADMO, Hon. Ebenezer Quaye of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly also received two thousand (2000) packs of cooked foods meant for the vulnerable within their catchment area on behalf of the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Mohammed Adjei Sowah.
All recipients expressed their gratitude to the President for this laudable initiative and prayed for more of such social interventions to alleviate the plight of the vulnerable in society during the lockdown period.
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has initiated the food distribution exercise because he recognizes the plight of the vulnerable in these trying times. As a result of this the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection on behalf of the President is assuring the general public that the food items will be delivered to them at the affected lockdown areas over the course of the week.
Residents are therefore cautioned to adhere to the President’s directives on movement since the distribution teams will soon visit their various communities.
