GASOW CALLS ON GENDER MINISTER TO DEEPEN COLLABORATION

The Ghana Association of Social Workers (GASOW) – led by its Vice President, Madam Joyce Kulevo – called on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, to officially introduce the Association and its newly elected executives, as well as reaffirm the Association’s commitment to supporting the Ministry’s work.
The delegation noted that GASOW, a professional body with over 40 years of existence, remains dedicated to promoting social welfare and supporting vulnerable persons across the country through professional social work practice.
During the engagement, the Association highlighted its longstanding advocacy for the legalisation and regulation of the social work profession in Ghana. According to the delegation, efforts to pass the proposed Social Work Council Bill had reached an advanced stage.
The team explained that the proposed legislation seeks to establish clear professional standards, regulate qualifications and practice within the profession and strengthen the delivery of social services in the country.
GASOW further assured the Minister of its readiness to support the Ministry through advocacy, policy expertise, capacity building, research and professional consultation to strengthen social protection systems and improve the welfare of vulnerable groups in Ghana.
On her part, the Minister welcomed the delegation and commended GASOW for its continued advocacy and professional contribution to social development.
She acknowledged importance of strengthening the social work profession and assured the Association of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to advance ongoing discussions on the proposed regulatory framework.
The Minister also encouraged continuous engagement and technical consultation to ensure that policy processes in the sector are inclusive and well informed.
