CLIMAX OF THE 2023 NATIONAL GIRLS-IN-ICT DAY CELEBRATION

On the occasion of the climax of the National Girls-In-ICT celebration organised by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD), the Minister for Gender Children and Social Protection, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu delivered a Solidarity message.
The event which was held on Wednesday 9th May, 2023 at the Damango Community Centre in the Savannah Region was themed “Digital Skills for Life”.
The theme, sought to raise awareness and provide young women and girls with information available in the ICT industry.
Delivering her statement, the Minister urged the audience, particularly the girls, to develop a habit of using ICT in their studies because it will increase their literacy, efficiency, and capacity for learning.
She revealed that the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has a five-year Adolescent Pregnancy Strategy that aims to guarantee that all stakeholders collaborate to avoid adolescent pregnancies while ensuring that girls remain in school to realize their full potential.
“Support our efforts to encourage pregnancy-free education for our young female students in schools.” She said.
Hon. Lariba Abudu disclosed that 1,081 girls have so far benefited from an annual mentorship and empowerment programme instituted by the Ministry.
She advised the girls to explore ICT with care and seize the opportunities the sector is offering.
Ghana has since been commemorating the Girl-in-ICT day since it was adopted in 2019 but MoCD institutionalized the commemoration in 2019 to provide more girls in Ghana with opportunity to use and be exposed to ICT.
