62ND SESSION OF THE COMMISSION FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AT THE UN HEADQUARTERS IN NEW YORK.

Ghana’s delegation, led by the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu, participated in a significant side event held at the ongoing 62nd Session of the Commission for Social Development at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Alongside the Minister, the delegation included the Chief Director, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, and some Directors from the Ministry.

The session centered on some crucial topics. Firstly, it engaged in a high-level panel discussion commemorating the thirtieth (30th) anniversary of the International Year of the Family, reflecting on the evolution and challenges faced by families globally.

Secondly, the session delved into the imperative matter of reevaluating social protection policies in Africa, emphasizing the pivotal role of indigenous social protection schemes as fundamental components for sustainable development.

This discourse emphasized the necessity of collaboration and synergy among stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness and reach of such schemes in fostering development across the continent.
