On Monday, May 8, 2023, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP)—led by its Sector Minister, Hon. Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, and the Chief Director, Dr. Afisah Zakariah—participated in a “Mentorship Workshop” organized for girls by the Ministry of Communications and Digitization (MoCD) as part of this year’s National Girls-In-ICT Day Celebration at the Damango Community Centre, Savannah Region.

The aim of the mentorship workshop was to provide young mentees with guidance and advice from mentors with rich experiences in their chosen fields.

The girls, drawn from selected primary schools in the Savannah Region, received talks on proper Menstrual Hygiene, Career Development, Reproductive Health, Etiquette, Time Management, Public Speaking among others.

Dr. Afisah Zakariah who also engaged the female participants counseled them to set realistic goals and significantly improve themselves in order to better support the national development agenda.

“Set your own objectives for where, with whom, and how you want to be in the future”. She spoke.

To avoid early pregnancies, the Chief Director recommended them to refrain from having premature intercourse.

She urged all and sundry to increase awareness-raising and education about sexual and reproductive issues.

Ghana has been commemorating this day since it was adopted in 2012, but MoCD institutionalized the commemoration in 2019 to provide more girls in Ghana with opportunity to use and be exposed to ICT.
