16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE NATIONAL WALK

As part of activities to mark the 16 days Activism against Gender-Based Violence, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection on Saturday, 30th November, 2019 together with their Development Partners and Civil Society Organizations organised a National walk to commemorate the day.

The walk which started from Obra spot, circle and ended at   the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection was organised to promote and sensitize the publics on Gender-Based Violence issues.

Chief Director for the Ministry, Dr. Afisah Zakariah said they are partnering with their development partners to champion Activism against Violence.

She added that, families must create the atmosphere for children to grow up in love.

Dr. Afisah Zakariah added that, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has been mandated to ensure that Ghana is peaceful devoid of Domestic and

Sexual Violence and that the Ministry is working assiduously to achieve that objective.

She urged participants to ‘Say No’ to any form of violence.

Sylvia Lopez Ekra, IOM Resident Chief of Missions in Ghana who spoke on behalf of development partners said the day was set aside to increase the advocacy against Gender-Based Violence.

She said, perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence Acts must be punished by law to serve as a deterrent to others.

She entreated all and sundry to desist from stigmatizing against persons who have experienced Sexual or Domestic Violence but rather show their support to such victims.

The walk saw students, staff of the Ministry, Development Partners and Civil Society Organizations participating.
