MoGCSP’s NEW MINISTER BEGINS TENURE OF OFFICE.

On Monday 3rd February, 2025 – The newly appointed Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Naa Momo Lartey, 𝐏𝐡𝐃, commenced her tenure with a series of engagements at the Ministry.

Welcomed by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, along with the Management team of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP), the Minister was provided with briefings regarding the Ministry’s operations during a meeting.

Addressing the meeting, the Sector Minister expressed her gratitude to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for the appointment and reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with all agencies to achieve the President’s vision of expanding social protection, reducing inequalities, and addressing poverty.

Hon. Naa Momo Lartey emphasized the Ministry’s critical role as the voice of the voiceless, advocating for the most vulnerable in society.

As part of the engagement, Directors of various Directorates, Secretariats, and Departments provided an overview of their mandates, ongoing projects, and challenges.

Commending their dedication, the Minister assured them of her commitment to strengthening the Ministry’s interventions, particularly in gender equality, child welfare, and social protection.

Following the management session, a durbar was held for the New Minister to be formally introduced to the staff of the Ministry, as well as engage them.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Naa Momo Lartey highlighted government’s priority to increase women’s representation in leadership, marking a significant step toward gender equality.

She also underscored the need to review flagship programs such as LEAP and the School Feeding Programme to ensure their effectiveness in reducing poverty and creating employment.

The Sector Minister further emphasized the importance of tackling violence against children, women, and persons with disabilities, expressing concern over rising cases of abuse.

She encouraged collective efforts to strengthen family bonding programmes and promote healthy relationships within communities.

“I am here to work with you, listen to your ideas, and together, advance the Ministry’s mission of ensuring we leave no one behind,” she assured.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection engagements mark the beginning of a renewed focus on strengthening social protection systems, promoting gender equality, and enhancing child welfare programmes under her leadership.
