During the 68th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), Ghana played an active role in discussions centered on the session’s priority theme. These discussions encompassed crucial topics such as women’s economic empowerment, gender-based violence, and access to education, among others.
Ghana’s delegation, representing the nation’s commitment to gender equality, shared valuable insights, experiences, and strategies. They highlighted Ghana’s comprehensive and robust actions over the years, including the establishment of key institutions such as the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service, and the Domestic Violence Courts.
These institutional frameworks reflect the Government of Ghana’s unwavering determination to combat violence against women and girls.
Moreover, Ghana’s delegation actively engaged in an interactive dialogue session with youth representatives, providing a platform for Member States to exchange ideas, share perspectives, and collaborate with youth advocates on gender equality and women’s empowerment issues.
During the session, Ghana’s delegation also seized the opportunity to meet and interact with representatives from Norsaac, a national non-governmental organization headquartered in Tamale. Norsaac is dedicated to championing an improved quality of life for empowered women, youth, and marginalized groups, thereby driving social change and improving living conditions for citizens.
Norsaac’s active participation in CSW 68 reflects its commitment to contributing to discussions on gender-responsive policies, social inclusion, and activism alongside civil society organizations and government delegations.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection in Ghana reiterated its commitment to partnering with NGOs to ensure continued progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment.
