TRAINING OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING & CHILD LABOUR

As part of activities earmarked to commemorate this year’s Trafficking In Persons (Blue Day), the Human Trafficking Secretariat – HTS, in partnership with the International Labour Organization Ghana – ILO, hosted some selected Law Enforcement and Social Welfare Officers to a three-day intensive capacity-building workshop on Human Trafficking (HT) and Child Labour (CL).
In line with this year’s theme “The Human Trafficking Law @ 20: The Journey So Far in Ghana” – which marks a significant milestone in the fight against the HT crime – the workshop aimed to provide training for law enforcement and social welfare officers, as well as other stakeholders in order to equip them with the latest knowledge, skills, and best practices to effectively combat human trafficking.
The training, among its various objectives, sought to enhance their ability to identify victims, investigate cases, and strengthen collaborative efforts among agencies to prevent human trafficking, bring perpetrators to justice and support survivors.
The training workshop covered topics such as: child trafficking & child labour, child protection in Ghana, the role of Law enforcement in combatting human trafficking and Child labour, Child friendly policing, Victim identification, Migrants Smuggling and Human Trafficking; Modern Trends and Consequences, Human Trafficking as an organized crime: money laundering and assets seizure, Integrated Social Services & ISSOP, Social Welfare Information Management Systems & its referral pathways .
Experts from ILO, Child Labour Unit, the Anti-human Trafficking Units of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, EOCO, and the Social Welfare Department shared their experiences and best practices, providing participants with a deeper understanding of the complexities of human trafficking and child labour.
The three-day workshop took place in Kumasi from the 30th June to the 2nd July, 2025.
