The Child Marriage Unit of Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), in partnership with UNFPA Ghana, has held a follow up review meeting for stakeholders regarding the Child Marriage Information Portal (CMIP).

The meeting was to assess progress made and explore new strategies to strengthen the platform’s role in ending child marriage in Ghana.

Discussions focused on innovative approaches to strengthen partnerships, sustain content creation, and expand public awareness through targeted outreach.

Welcoming participants, the Head of the Child Marriage Unit, Madam Saphia Tamimu, commended stakeholders for their continued dedication to safeguarding children’s rights.

She highlighted gains made since the first review meeting, including stronger editorial collaboration, expanded content, improved accessibility, and clearly defined roles to boost audience engagement.

Ghana has reduced prevalence from 40% in the 1980s to 16% in 2022, yet one in six women are still married or in union before age 18. Despite this progress, Madam Tamimu stressed that child marriage remains a pressing issue and therefore called for accelerated national efforts to address the challenge.

“This portal is more than just an information platform — it is a lifeline for advocacy, policy influence, and community action. By working together, we can ensure it remains a vibrant, accessible, and impactful tool in our collective mission to protect every child from early marriage”, Madam Tamimu emphasized.

The review meeting brought together representatives from UNICEF, civil society organisations, development partners, and members of the CMIP Editorial Committee.

The Child Marriage Information Portal serves as a centralised hub for accurate information on child marriage, sexual and gender-based violence, and related issues. It has recently been enhanced with new content, improved user experience, and greater security, making it a trusted resource for policymakers, practitioners, and the public.
