In order to establish and implement a plan for integrating gender into social protection, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP)has initiated series of processes.
These procedures included and followed a bottom-up, wider stakeholder involvement strategy at both the national and sub-national levels to forge consensus, collect ideas, and generate proposals for creating a thorough national roadmap.
Following a series of stakeholder meetings, the MoGCSP and UNICEF has developed a roadmap for integrating gender into social Protection programming delivery and shock responsiveness
In light of the aforementioned, the Ministry’s Social Protection Directorate in collaboration with UNICEF held a meeting with its stakeholders on Wednesday, 8th June, 2023 to validate and adopt the roadmap for its finalization.
The Sector Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu, noted during the meeting that the ministry has made steps to put social protection interventions into place and ensure efficient coordination of such interventions in order to empower the most vulnerable people in a way that is gender-responsive.
She also emphasized the need for gender-sensitive and impartial social protection programs and delivery.
“By being intentional about integrating gender sensitivity and needs into our social protection systems, we can pave the way for a more equitable society”. She stressed.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the Ministry’s development partners for their significant and ongoing financial support as well as technical help in bolstering the social protection systems.
According to Madam
Abena Annobea Asare, the Ag. Social Protection Director, the meeting would give stakeholders the chance to converse and develop a practical roadmap aimed at promoting gender equality and inclusiveness
She also stressed that the validation meeting would fine-tune the roadmap to provide a broader lens to shape the social protection system from a gender perspective.
The Chief of Policy and Social Inclusion at UNICEF-Ghana, Paulina Sarvalahti is optimistic that stakeholders will produce a good workable and efficient roadmap.
She however called for a renew commitment towards the protection of the vulnerable to ensure that their rights are guaranteed.
