SOCIAL PROTECTION INTER-SECTORAL TECHNICAL COMMITTEE (SPISTC) MEETING

From Thursday, August 1 to Friday, August 2, 2024, in Ho, Volta Region, the Social Protection Directorate under the auspices of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection held a two-day 2nd Quarter Social Protection Inter-Sectoral Technical Committee (SPISTC) meeting to adopt the 2023 Social Protection Annual Performance Report.
The meeting aimed to assess the status of the implementation of the second phase of the National Social Protection Policy and to discuss and validate the final draft of the 2023 Social Protection Annual Performance Report.
In a welcome address on behalf of the Chief Director of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, and Chairperson of the Committee, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the National Director for the Department of Social Welfare, Dr. Comfort Asare, mentioned that the collective efforts of the SPISTC have been pivotal in advancing social protection towards eliminating extreme poverty in the country.
She expressed optimism that effective deliberation would lead to meaningful outcomes that will shape the future of social protection, ensuring every Ghanaian, irrespective of their circumstances, has access to the support they need to live a dignified life.
Dr. Comfort Asare, therefore, urged the committee members to maintain a spirit of collaboration and constructive dialogue to build a formidable social protection system.
Participants expressed their commitment to working together to enhance the social safety net and ensure that vulnerable populations receive the support they need.
The meeting provided its members the opportunity to assess the progress of the first and second quarter social protection activities based on the harmonized work plan of the Second Phase Implementation Plan (SPIP).
The assessment covered the achievements, challenges, and future plans for the vulnerable and less privileged in the country.
SPISTC is a national-level coordinated structure tasked with supervising and providing technical assistance to the development and implementation of initiatives and policies for social protection.
