ORIENTATION & TRAINING FOR NEW DOMESTIC VIOLENCE MANAGEMENT BOARD

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), through the Domestic Violence Secretariat, held a two-day orientation and training programme for the newly constituted Domestic Violence Management Board.
The programme aimed to strengthen the Board’s capacity to provide oversight and strategic direction under the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732). It also fostered interaction among members to build teamwork and enhance delivery of their mandate.
In her address, the Minister, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey congratulated members and emphasised the need for stronger institutional mechanisms to address domestic violence, which remains a major national concern.
She outlined the statutory functions of the Board and highlighted key government initiatives under H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, including:
– Establishment of 16 regional shelters with comprehensive services for survivors.
– Introduction of a Survivors Care Kit with free legal and medical support.
– Ratification of ILO Convention 190.
– Launch of the national “Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence and Sexual Harassment” campaign.
– Elevation of DOVVSU to a Directorate.
The Head of the Secretariat, Madam Malonin Asibi, presented on the Secretariat’s mandate and stressed collaboration with the Board.
The Chairperson led discussions on emerging dynamics of gender-based violence and guided members in developing a draft work and action plan.
Other sessions covered the role of the Board, strategies for effective governance, the Secretariat’s 2025 work plan, and policy commitments in the government’s Reset Manifesto.
The Minister pledged continued support, periodic engagements, and urged members to commit fully to their duties.
