The Women Caucus of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), led by Ms. Helena Mensah, has paid a working visit to the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.

The visit was to congratulate the Minister on her appointment and to strengthen collaboration between the Caucus and the Ministry.

Discussions focused on building the capacities of Assembly Members, particularly women and promoting gender equality, with emphasis on increasing women’s participation in district-level elections.

The group also highlighted the Partnerships for Municipal Innovation – Women in Local Leadership (PMI-WILL) initiative, which seeks to enhance the leadership skills of women in local governance, foster inclusive decision-making, and support policies that advance gender equality.

Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, herself a former General Secretary of NALAG, commended the Caucus for its work and urged them to intensify efforts to encourage more women to take up leadership roles in decision-making.

She noted that the recently passed Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Act provides an important opportunity to expand women’s representation.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with the NALAG Women Caucus to ensure the effective implementation of the Affirmative Action Act. She also encouraged them to actively engage in the ongoing national conversation on constitutional review, particularly regarding decentralization.
