The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has hosted a high-level Learning Exchange with a delegation from the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Accra to strengthen regional collaboration on the regulation of non-profit organisations.
Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Head of the Non-Profit Organisation Secretariat, Mr. Felix Logah, congratulated Nigeria on its recent exit from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and risk-based supervision within the NPO sector.
Mr. Logah highlighted ongoing reforms, including the development of a new NPO Bill to streamline registration, clarify oversight roles, and enhance coordination among key institutions such as the Financial Intelligence Centre, the Registrar General’s Department and the Ghana Police CID.
He emphasised that regional cooperation remains crucial for strengthening compliance efforts across West Africa and described the engagement as an opportunity for both countries to deepen collaboration, share best practices, and build systems that protect civic space.
The Board Chair of the WACSI Node Nigeria, Mr. Oladayo Olaide, expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for its longstanding support to WACSI, noting that the visit coincided with the Institute’s twentieth anniversary and the recent West Africa Civil Society Week. He underscored the importance of African countries learning from one another as global development financing continues to evolve.
Delegates from both countries also discussed practical approaches to due diligence, registration, data sharing, and institutional coordination.
The Learning Exchange concluded with a renewed commitment to ongoing dialogue, peer learning, and future capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening NPO regulation and safeguarding civic space across West Africa.
