MoGCSP CONCLUDES 2024 BREAST CANCER AWARENESS AND EARLY DETECTION CAMPAIGN

Building on the success of October’s breast cancer awareness, education, and screening for female inmates at the Nsawam Prison, Kaneshie market women and students at Kingsway cluster of schools, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has concluded the 2024 Breast Cancer Awareness creation campaign on Wednesday November 6th, 2024 at the ministry.

Organized by the Department of Gender and Human Resource Management Directorate of MoGCSP, the breast cancer sensitization aimed at providing the ministrys’ staff with critical information on breast cancer, prevention, and early detection

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director for the Department of Gender, Madam Vera Karikari, the Senior Nurse from the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Madam Doris Agyei led discussions on the nature and risks of breast cancer, emphasizing on early detection and proactive health practices.

She shared essential prevention tips, including regular exercise, limiting alcohol, adequate sleep, and a healthy lifestyle.

In the end, Madam Vera Kakari urged the officers to ask questions in order to gain indepth knowledge about breast cancer, its effects, and how to examine oneself at home at any given time.

The session culminated in breast cancer screening.

Attendees gained practical knowledge, such as breast self-examination techniques, to encourage regular check-ups and early intervention.

The staff, on the other hand, stressed the importance of continued community engagement and partnerships to bridge the knowledge gap, reduce stigma, and ultimately lower breast cancer mortality rates through preventive measures and early intervention.
