The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) took center stage at the Ministry of Information’s press briefing on Thursday, providing crucial updates on two key initiatives: the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024, and the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) Digitalization Agenda.

During the briefing, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dakoa Newman, unveiled a significant step forward for the GSFP. She announced that the programme has fully digitalized its registration process, set to commence in the 2024-2025 academic year.

This new approach involves the adoption of a Management Information System (MIS), designed to streamline the selection and payment processes for caterers, as well as to improve data collection activities.

“The digital platform aims to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness of the School Feeding Programme,” the Minister stated.

She added that this innovation is expected to reduce delays and improve the allocation of resources within the GSFP, ultimately benefiting school children across the country.

In her remarks on the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act 2024, Minister Newman expressed gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Members of Parliament for their efforts in passing the bill.

She noted that the bill is now awaiting the President’s assent, which will be the final step before it becomes law.

The Minister highlighted that the Affirmative Action Bill is a pivotal move towards gender equality in Ghana, aiming to remove the barriers that hinder women from ascending to leadership roles.

“Women in Ghana are fully qualified to hold high positions,” she emphasized, “and this Act will ensure they are given equal opportunities across all sectors.”

Once the bill is signed into law, it is expected to significantly increase women’s participation in decision-making roles, raising the minimum representation from 30% to 50% by 2030.
