The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, embarked on unannounced monitoring visits to some selected schools as the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) commenced for the First Term of the 2025/2026 Academic Year.

The Minister visited Nungua Presbyterian Basic Schools, where she interacted with pupils, teachers, and caterers, and observed the serving of meals.

She also visited Field Engineer ‘A’ Basic School and Field Engineer ‘B’ Basic School in the Ledzokuku Municipality, as well as Nungua KroMa 1, KroMa 2, KroMa 3, KroMa 4 & 7, KroMa 5, and KroMa 6 Primary Schools in the Krowor Municipality.

Engaging the media, the Minister explained that the monitoring exercise was part of ongoing spot checks to ensure caterers deliver on their mandate, adding that such visits will continue across the country.

Touching on the recent increment in the feeding grant from GHS 1.50 to GHS 2.00, the Minister described the adjustment as a gradual process. She assured that Government, in collaboration with stakeholders, would work to secure steady increments in the future to further strengthen the Programme.

She urged caterers to prepare nutritious and quality meals to promote the growth, health, and learning of pupils. She also cautioned that any caterer who fails to cook for five consecutive days would be penalised and replaced, stressing that Government will not compromise on the wellbeing of children.

The Minister expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for approving the increment and assenting to the Social Protection Act, which now provides a stronger legal framework for social interventions like the GSFP.

The Minister was accompanied by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Hajia Fati Forgor, and other officials.
