The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has joined the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) and the National Communications Authority (NCA) to commemorate the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on 3rd December, 2025.

The event, held on the global theme “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress” and the national theme “Access to Technology and Assistive Devices for Persons with Disabilities,” brought together government officials, development partners, disability rights advocates, and technology industry stakeholders to highlight progress and accelerate action toward disability inclusion.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, in her keynote address reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening policy frameworks, expanding social protection interventions and working with agencies such as the NCA, Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, Ministry of Education, and development partners to promote access to digital tools and assistive devices.

She emphasised that technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity that determines whether persons with disabilities can learn, work, communicate, and participate fully in national development. The Minister also noted that the review of the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715) has been completed and is undergoing final consultations before submission to Cabinet.

The President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), Mr. Joseph Atsu Homadzi, underscored the importance of ensuring that persons with disabilities are not excluded from Ghana’s digital transformation. He stressed that disability issues concern everyone and urged institutions to design policies and digital systems that reflect the needs of persons with disabilities.

As part of the commemoration, the Minister joined other dignitaries to officially launch a new book titled “An Evolution of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations.” The publication, authored by a long serving disability advocate, documents the history, progress and activism of the disability movement in Ghana.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure that no person with a disability is left behind in Ghana’s development agenda.
