The meeting, which was held on the margins of the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67), was organized by the African Union Commission (AUC), through the Women, Gender and Youth Directorate (WGYD), in collaboration with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).

Goals of the summit included:

• Orienting the UN Women leadership at global level on the Africa Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) priorities.

• Seek out further support for the African Union-UN Women Africa Strategy’s execution and to reaffirm the objectives of the AU Strategy for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.

• Outline key areas of support and collaboration between UN Women at global level and the AU (represented by UN Women Africa, AUC-WGYD and AU Ministers).

Hon. Hajia Lariba Abudu took the chance to stress that 30% of mining profits should go towards the welfare of women and other vulnerable members of society.
