KAYAYEI YOUTH ASSOCIATION CALLS ON GENDER MINISTER

The Kayayei Youth Association of Ghana has engaged the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to explore avenues for collaboration aimed at improving the lives of young female head porters across the country.
In its efforts to advocate for vulnerable women in the informal sector, the Association is seeking access to government-run skills development and empowerment initiatives.
Acknowledging the daily struggles faced by young women who migrate to urban areas in search of better livelihoods, the Association is calling for renewed partnerships that support their reintegration through vocational training, entrepreneurship opportunities, and targeted social protection interventions.
These, they believe, will equip members with the essential skills and resources needed for long-term self-sufficiency.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, warmly welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advancing inclusive policies that empower women and girls.
She conveyed the Ministry’s readiness to work with relevant agencies to ensure the Kayayei are meaningfully integrated into ongoing national skills and job creation programmes.
The Hon. Minister also highlighted the Ministry’s intention to strengthen inter-ministerial coordination to ensure no vulnerable group is left behind in Ghana’s resetting & development agenda.
