The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has launched a nationwide practical training initiative for caterers and head cooks serving beneficiary basic schools, as part of efforts to enhance standard of meals provided to pupils across the country.
The capacity building programme, which spans all sixteen regions is designed to improve good quality, promote hygiene and safety standards and strength caterers understanding of nutrition and appropriate meal preparation.
The exercise is being carried out in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and Women in Agricultural and Development Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
Participating caterers are being exposed to modern cooking techniques and safe food handling practices to ensure that meals served under the programme are both nutritious and wholesome.
To ensure effective implementation and broad coverage, the training sessions have been decentralized into three zones, Southern, Middle and Northern belts.
The programme commenced on 15th December with sessions currently underway in Bono, Volta and Oti Regions. Additional regions are expected to be engaged in subsequent phases.
