GENDER MINISTER VISITS JALILA’S FAMILY

Following a report aired by Channel One TV on the alleged abuse of eight-year-old Jalila Abdul Jalil, a Class Two pupil of St. Olives Grammar Boarding School in Dodowa, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has visited the child and her family.

The visit was to express government’s sympathy and assure the family of the State’s commitment to Jalila’s safety, recovery and future.

Addressing the family, the Minister described the incident as unfortunate and reaffirmed her commitment to ensure the child receives comprehensive medical, psychosocial and welfare support.

The Minister further stressed that the Ministry will follow the case to its conclusion.

She emphasized “anybody who harms a child harms the nation”, and assured the family that the law will take its full course irrespective of who is involved.

As part of the visit, the Minister made donations to support the family, including a cash amount of Gh¢5,000, food items, and household supplies.

The family of Jalila expressed gratitude to the Minister for the visit and support extended, but appealed for swift justice in the case.

The Minister also commended Channel One TV and other media outlets for bringing the issue, as well as similar cases, to public attention, noting that responsible journalism plays a critical role in protecting vulnerable children and ensuring accountability.

She was accompanied by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, Madam Malonin Asibi, Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat and other officials.
