The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has received a delegation from the Ghana FEDERATION of Disability Organizations (GFD), led by its President, Mr. Joseph Atsu Humadzi, as part of efforts to deepen collaboration toward improving disability-inclusive policies and social protection services in the country.

This visit marks the second engagement between the Federation and the Minister, following earlier discussions on strengthening access to social protection interventions, enhancing inclusive education, and improving services for children, caregivers, and persons with disabilities.

During the engagement, the delegation reiterated calls for the review and re-enactment of the Persons with Disability Act to align with the UNCRPD. They also highlighted the need to upgrade rehabilitation and vocational training centres nationwide to boost skills development, and proposed measures such as employment quotas to expand job opportunities for persons with disabilities.

The delegation further emphasized the need for enhanced stakeholder education, improved coordination among implementing agencies, and strategies that reflect the diverse needs of all disability groups. They underscored the importance of unity within the disability sector to maximize advocacy efforts, particularly in the face of limited resources.

The Minister thanked the Federation for its continued engagement and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advancing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities. She assured the delegation that the issues raised would be incorporated into ongoing policy reforms and programme reviews, adding that disability issues remain a government priority under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
