The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has intervened to support Rosemond Asomadu, a young woman who suffered a traumatic dog attack at her workplace — a Chinese-owned plastic wares warehouse located in Jamestown, Accra.
The incident came to light after Rosemond shared her harrowing experience on Onua TV’s morning show hosted by Captain Smart. According to her, she was attacked by dogs kept at the warehouse, resulting in serious injuries that required medical attention.
She further recounted that, despite her condition, the company failed to cover her medical expenses and subsequently terminated her employment.
Upon hearing the report, the Minister promptly invited Rosemond to the Ministry to assess the situation and offer the necessary support. She expressed deep concern over Rosemond’s ordeal.
Recognizing the labour-related nature of the case, the Minister directed the Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat to liaise with Rosemond and facilitate her access to redress through the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.
In a show of compassion, the Minister also provided Rosemond with an undisclosed amount of financial assistance to help cover her medical needs and pledged to monitor the case closely until justice is served.
The Minister expressed her appreciation to Onua TV and Captain Smart for bringing the issue to her attention and using their platform to amplify the voices of the vulnerable.
She further encouraged the public to report cases of abuse through the Ministry’s toll-free lines: 0800-800-800 / 0800-900-900, and 0800-111-222.
