As part of its commitment to protecting vulnerable groups, the Domestic Violence Secretariat (DVS) of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has launched a sensitization exercise in the Western Region targeting persons with disabilities and community leaders. The initiative coincides with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The engagement brought together persons with disabilities, opinion leaders, market women, and community members to deepen their understanding of Domestic, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence (D/SGBV) and to strengthen community mechanisms for prevention and response.
The sensitization focused on:
Raising awareness among 150 participants on D/SGBV and encouraging community vigilance.
Enhancing assertiveness, enabling participants to claim their rights and seek help when necessary.
Facilitating effective referral of cases to relevant authorities for prompt intervention.
Expediting access to justice to ensure timely protection and support for survivors.
The activity aligns with this year’s global theme for the 16 Days of Activism, “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities theme, “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress.”
