The Central Adoption Authority (CAA), under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), has organised a refresher training for its internal staff to strengthen their capacity and update knowledge.

The training formed part of the Authority’s continuous capacity-building initiatives aimed at equipping staff with the requisite knowledge and skills to effectively deliver on their mandate of regulating and overseeing adoption processes in Ghana.

Among other things, the refresher training aimed to:

– Reinforce staff understanding of CAA’s roles and functions in the adoption process.

– Identify and address gaps in implementation, coordination, and compliance.

– Promote consistency, efficiency, and integrity in adoption procedures.

– Foster teamwork, knowledge sharing, and adherence to best practices.

In his opening remarks on behalf of the Chief Director of MoGCSP, Dr Afisah Zakariah, the Head of CAA, Mr Stephen Tikai Dombo underscored the importance of regular refresher trainings to ensure that staff remain conversant with evolving policies and procedures in child protection and adoption.

He indicated that the training will enable the officers to improve on their competencies and enhance their skills in the laws and regulations that guide the activities and programmes in the office.

Participants were taken through key modules including the legal framework on adoption, stress management and office practice, principles and ethics in social work practice, and article 16 report writing by the Licensed Psychologist & HR Professional, Madam Anna Plange, the Principal, School of Social Work, Madam Yvonne Norman and the Foreign Adoption officer Mr Daniel Goka.

The training session also provided a platform for staff to share experiences and challenges encountered in the line of duty while exploring innovative ways to strengthen adoption service delivery.

The refresher training reaffirmed the CAA’s commitment, under the leadership of MoGCSP, to streamline adoption processes in line with national laws and international standards.
