CAPACITY-BUILDING WORKSHOP ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND CASE MANAGEMENT

A two-day capacity-building workshop for stakeholders on Domestic Violence and Case Management was organized by the Domestic Violence Secretariat of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) with support from UNFPA Ghana and in collaboration with the Ark Foundation Ghana from Thursday 17th to Friday 18th July 2025 .
Among other things, the workshop sought to strengthen the knowledge and skills of key stakeholders in effectively handling domestic violence cases and enhancing coordination in the provision of services to survivors.
-Equip stakeholders with in-depth knowledge of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732), and other related legal frameworks.
-Enhance capacity in case management processes including referral pathways, documentation, survivor-centered approaches, and multi-sectoral collaboration.
-Create a platform for sharing best practices and challenges in responding to domestic violence.
In her welcome address on behalf of the Director for the Domestic Violence Secretariat, Madam Melonin Asibi, a Senior Program Officer, Madam Ernestina Serwaa Oduro emphasized the importance of equipping stakeholders with practical tools and strategies for effective case management and survivor-centered support. She noted that domestic violence remains a critical social issue that undermines the safety and well-being of individuals, particularly women and children.
Madam Ernestina Oduro stressed that the Domestic Violence Secretariat is the first line of defence for those seeking safety and support from SGBV in the country.
The Senior Program Officer encouraged the stakeholders to actively share their experience, knowledge, and learn from each other to enable them strengthen their collective response to fight domestic violence in all forms.
She lauded UNFPA and the Ark Foundation, Ghana, for their unwavering commitment and vital role they play in ending SGBV
The workshop featured presentations, group discussions, and practical case scenarios on key areas such as definitions, nature, types, dynamics, root causes, and impact of Domestic Violence and SGBV
The workshop concluded with a renewed sense of commitment among stakeholders to work collaboratively to combat domestic violence and uphold the rights and dignity of survivors.
