Ghana is participating in the 62nd session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD62) underway at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The 62nd session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD62) will focus on “Fostering social development and social justice through social policies to accelerate progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to achieve the overarching goal of poverty eradication”.
Furthermore, it will focus on key emerging issues such as the Influence of Digital Transformation on Inclusive Growth and Development: A Path to Achieving Social Justice.
Ghana’s delegation is headed by the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, alongside the Chief Director, Dr. Afisah Zakariah and some Directors from the Ministry.
In her address at the 62nd Session of the Commission for Social Development, Hon. Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, said Ghana is working assiduously and relentlessly to ensure its citizens live a dignified life. “The Government of Ghana over the years has implemented social protection programs, projects and interventions aimed at ensuring every Ghanaian is empowered to fully contribute to the national development agenda and the realization of the sustainable development goals”, She said.
Despite acknowledging global poverty challenges, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Minister highlighted Ghana’s transformative policies aimed at promoting equitable social development.
These policies include initiatives such as the Education Capitation Grant, Free Senior High School, Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program, Ghana School Feeding Programme, Planting for Food and Jobs initiative, and the National Health Insurance Scheme.
She emphasized the importance of collaboration with global partners and the need for strategic, data-driven efforts to scale up investments in social protection systems and modern, sustainable agricultural practices.
