In an effort to address child poverty, the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) and the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), commissioned an analysis of Multi-Dimensional Child Poverty (MDCP) in Ghana. The aim of the study is to raise awareness and commitment towards addressing child development and protection issues.

The Multi-Dimensional Child Poverty in Ghana Report was officially launched by the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana Her Excellency Rebecca Akuffo-Addo on Thursday, 23rd January 2020, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

As part of the event, there was a technical panel discussion by identified discussants from Civil Society, Academia the Ghana Statistical Service and the Department of Children.

Objective

The overall objective of the panel discussion was to discuss the report, examining among others, its methodology, analysis, findings and recommendations. The second objective was to discuss the way forward, focusing on the implementation of the proposed recommendations in areas such as multi-sectoral coordination, funding, data, monitoring and evaluation of progress in the reduction of child poverty. A third objective was to engage with relevant Agencies per dimension on their responses to the recommendations of the report.
